Distance Learning Virtual Field Trip: Rome for Valentine's Day

Buckle up and head to Rome for Valentine’s Day! This virtual field trip (through Google Slides) covers the history of Valentine's Day, information about how Valentine’s Day is celebrated today, and information about the heart, one of our most vital organs!

This virtual field trip will start by giving your students some hints as to where they will be traveling. Students will make predictions and access prior knowledge about Rome and Valentine’s Day. Students will then buckle their seatbelts and take off on their travels to Rome. Students will enjoy some inflight entertainment and listen to two Valentine-themed read alouds. You children will then touch down at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome.

Upon arrival to Rome, students will learn about the history and tourist attractions in Rome. Students will then learn about the origins of Valentine’s Day. Students will learn Valentine’s Day through factual information, photographs, read alouds, and videos. Students will also take a close look at the heart, an important symbol for Valentine’s Day but also our most vital organ. Students will learn factual information about the heart. Extensions and a comprehension check is offered at the end Virtual Field Trip.

During the field trip students will:

-Listen to read alouds with comprehension questions

-Learn about the history of Rome & Popular Tourist Attractions

-Learn about the history of Valentine’s Day (two options, one for K-2 & one for 3-6)

-Conduct some research about Valentine’s Day through National Geographic Kids

-Learn about the Heart

-Conduct some research about the Heart through National Geographic Kids

-Learn about Animal’s Hearts

-Watch a slideshow of naturally occurring hearts in nature

-Learn how to say “I Love You” in different languages

-Learn how to make simple Valentine’s Day Treats

-Learn how to make their very own Valentine’s Day Cards
