My New Adventure

Welcome to my new website, new blog, and my new(ish) adventure! I recently did a poll on my instagram account asking what my first blog on my new website/first blog in ages should be about and it was a resounding, “Restarting my career at 33 (why/what I am doing)” It does also seem fitting for the first post on my new site…so here it goes!

Half-way through this last year (year 11), I knew my heart was just not in public school education any more. It was a really hard decision to make and I already miss the kiddos terribly but I do have to say, I am absolutely sure I made the right decision to resign at the end of the year.

So fast forward to now, I am working as an instructional designer for an EdTech company and also pursuing my Teacher’s Pay Teachers store and tutoring. My ID role is contract work and I can work as few or as many hours as I would like each week!

Now that I’m working for myself, I’ve definitely done my fair share of freaking out but I still have yet to regret leaving the classroom.

I believe that things happen for a reason and if you follow along on my IG, you may have seen that our pup Holly, was diagnosed with cancer in early July so going back to work in the schools would not have been an option anyway as she needs 24/7 care. Perhaps leaving when I did was blessing in disguise.

Having the opportunity to spend every second caring for Holly is exactly where I am supposed to be! I also know I love children’s literature, I love teaching/tutoring, I love creating lessons and resources, I love being home, and I love being my own boss.

So, welcome to the Literacy Party— where literacy and learning are always celebrated. I’ve always had a small space on IG with @theliteracyparty but now with www.theliteracyparty.com it seems more official and a space where BIG things are going to happen! Wish me luck!
